This
fourth RAL Summer Workshop
will use the wheel-thrown
‘kitchen-use’ pot as a basis
for designing and making
those pots we use daily;
cups and bowls, ovenware,
serving ware, colanders
and more...
We’ll
focus on
and develop some new ideas
and making-techniques for
several
of the less common items
in our kitchen—like scoops,
olive ‘rings’ and a
very curious chip ‘n dip
server.
During
the last day of the workshop,
Bill will lead a detailed
discussion, followed
by assorted demos about
glazing
our pot, the ‘how to” applications
that
go beyond the normal techniques
we commonly use. Dipping,
pouring, layering
glazes, wax resist, trailing,
sponging, simple brushwork
and
spraying are
some of the techniques that
will be demonstrated and
then practiced hands-on
by participants.
Each
student will bring to the
workshop
6-8 bisque-fired pots, i.e.,
rounded forms,
a lidded-pot, bowls and
cups
on which to practice new
glazing techniques.
Cone 6 glazes and wax resist
will be provided. Wear studio
clothing
and bring your wheel-tools,
glazing tools you’d like
to use, a couple of decorating
brushes, 2 studio towels,
your
notebook and any glaze recipes
you’d
like to share.
