Carol will guide you in exploring simple approaches to creative writing, and with some basic art materials, new techniques for visual expression. You’ll begin to create a decorated journal and other projects, that will serve as lasting records of your unique perspective. Bring your own life experiences, your powers of observations and your willingness to try new things. $35 materials fee, paid to instructor, includes a blank journal, waterproof pen and miscellaneous class supplies.

Layers, Light and Luminosity - Watercolor Workshop

This workshop will teach you to add drama, depth and sparkle, bringing your watercolors to the “next level”. Using a limited palette of mainly transparent paints and a variety of subject matter, this workshop will explore light and shadow, layering color and texture for glow and use negative space for depth and richness. Lynn will provide reference material, plenty of handouts, and lots of individual attention.

Form and Texture Pottery Workshop

June 12 & 13      10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. 

This workshop will focus on the incorporation of texture in both hand-built and wheel-thrown pots. Traditional forms such as bowls, cups, jars, teapots and vases will be demonstrated. Slab construction will be presented parallel to wheel-thrown work, exposing participants to a wide range of techniques. The basis of this class is the exploration of functional pots. The focus is on process, not finished pieces. No glazing or firing will be done. Students should supply their own tools.

Watercolor Florals

Spend a week painting beautiful flowers. The instructor will demonstrate and have handouts. Students will paint a botanical leaf-green color chart and learn to paint water and a glass vase. Students should have taken a minimum of a beginners class.

Watercolor For Fun

Have fun with this medium! We will paint on crumbled rice paper which creates a batik look to the painting. The pour technique will be used to create an underwater scene. Using salt and blowing paint with a straw are “fun” techniques we will be using. Our third painting will be a hardscape of cliffs using saran plastic wrap, bubble wrap and gauze.

The Healing Possibilities of Watercolor

Each day begins with a one-hour demonstration followed up by shorter demos during the day to emphasize techniques. We’ll work from photographs, creating thumbnail sketches that will lead us to painting using the mystery of light and the importance of allowing mistakes. Positive critiques will be offered through the day. Learn how to shift consciousness, just slightly, so that your painting experience is more meaningful.

Taking the “collage aesthetic” a few steps farther, this class picks up where the earlier class left off in looking for ways to enhance the look and feel of your work through the overlay of images, textures, materials and ideas relevant to your work process. We re-examine basic collage techniques, glues and supports with the emphasis on collaging materials of your own making - in addition to employing found and/or recycled objects and materials.
