Painting Workshop

Join fellow artists for an exciting weekend of painting “en plein air” at the beach. This two-day workshop will begin with a morning of classroom instruction indoors, then move outdoors to the beautiful beaches and streets of Rehoboth. (Weather permitting. If weather is poor, we will continue working in studio). Instruction will focus on the key elements of composition and students are invited to look for the abstract shapes in the landscape and how they interconnect. Denise Dumont is an award-winning representational painter whose work is held in collections across the country. Supply list will be available to students.

Developing Color Energy

In this powerful 5-day workshop, Ken reveals “color secrets” and design ideas each day. He offers guidelines which encourage your creative interpretation of painting ideas. Painting demonstrations emphasize freeflowing watercolor and include a variety of subjects, including landscape, flowers, human figures or animals. This class is ideal for both beginning and advanced students. A typical day includes presentation of new ideas and demonstration in the morning with class work time and individual help in the afternoon. The workshop ends with an uplifting and informative critique session.

Exploration of Henlopen State Park en Plein Air

Students will explore personal growth through the experience of painting en plein air. Classes will be held outdoors, (weather permitting) and will be open to students working in any color medium, however, the emphasis will be on oils. Class will be held indoors in the event of rain.

The first weekend of this class will be covering the basics of camera operations, photographic theory, printing and composition. The second weekend will cover the basics of digital processing and critiquing student images taken during the week. Bring cameras, laptops (if available) notebook and a memory card.

Hand Building with the Extruder and SlabRoller
with Shirl & Jim Parmentier

May 31  &  June 1      9:00 a.m.— 4:00 p.m.


This workshop is all about making pots that aren’t round. The main focus of hand-building with the Parmentiers is using the extruder and slab roller as the primary forming tool. The students will learn how to design and build their own vases, boxes, bowls and baskets. The students will leave class with competency in using the Parmentiers 35 years of experience.
